Sandu said Romania is a strong advocate for Moldova in Brussels and other European capitals. She said the Romanian government will send former chief negotiator for EU integration Vasile Puscas to Chișinău in September to help Moldova prepare for accession talks.

"We need to learn how to adjust our institutions and how to do things faster and better," Sandu said. "We want to be ready for accession by the end of this decade."

Puscas said a program is being drawn up that will involve ministers and heads of directorates from various government institutions.

"We will share our experience and expertise with Moldova," Puscas said. "We want to help them achieve their goal of joining the EU."
