Foreigners caught trying to illegally cross Moldovan border into Romania
Five foreign nationals, including a minor, were detained on Saturday after they were caught trying to illegally cross the Moldovan border into Romania.
The group was spotted by border police using thermal imaging systems and drones as they were heading towards the Prut River, in the direction of Paicu (RM) - Vădeni (RO).
Patrols from the Southern Directorate and the Gotești Border Police Sector intervened at the scene and the persons were detained.
The foreigners were identified as three citizens of the Republic of Burundi (two women aged 26 and 33 and a 9-year-old child) and two citizens of the Republic of Cameroon (aged 20 and 27). They were carrying bags and pouches containing inflatable swimming jackets and other personal belongings.
The Border Police said that the group had no travel documents and were not authorised to enter Romania. They were taken into custody by the General Inspectorate for Migration for a period of 30 days, after which they will be expelled from the Republic of Moldova.
The case is still under investigation for the offence of attempted illegal border crossing.
