Belgium's decision to open embassy in Moldova is historic

The opening of an embassy by Belgium in Moldova is a historic decision that demonstrates the increasing interest of the Belgian kingdom in the Eastern European country, said Ambassador Viorel Cibotaru.

Cibotaru, who is also the ambassador of Moldova to Luxembourg, said that the decision is a reflection of Moldova's successes in managing the energy, economic, social, security, and refugee crises.

"Moldova has shown great resilience in the face of these challenges, and this has earned us a positive image in Belgium," Cibotaru said. "The decision to open an embassy is a sign of Belgium's commitment to supporting Moldova as it pursues its European integration goals."

Cibotaru said that Moldova's priority is to obtain full membership in the European Union. The country has been an associate member of the EU since 2014.
