Moldova's mandatory health insurance system: A success, but challenges remain
The implementation of the mandatory health insurance system in Moldova has been the country's most significant achievement in the health care sector since independence, according to Ion Dodon, the general director of the National Health Insurance Company.
However, Dodon also acknowledged that there are still some challenges to address.
"A significant portion of the population is still not covered by the mandatory health insurance system," Dodon said in an interview with Radio Moldova. "This means that they are not able to access medical services, medicines, and medical devices that are reimbursed from the mandatory health insurance funds. We need to make a great effort to increase health insurance coverage so that everyone in Moldova can have access to quality health care."
Dodon also noted that the mandatory health insurance policy has been mandatory for all citizens of Moldova since 2004, but there is still a lack of awareness about the system. He urged people to enrol in the system so that they can benefit from the coverage it provides.
