Germany aims to reduce asylum applications from Moldova and Georgia

The German government has added Moldova and Georgia to its list of safe countries of origin, in a move to reduce the number of asylum applications from the two countries, which are almost always rejected, Reuters reported.

Over 8,000 people from Georgia and over 5,000 from Moldova applied for asylum in Germany last year, and 99.9% of those applications were rejected from 2022 to date, according to German government data.

The German government defines safe countries of origin as those where there is no fear of persecution by the state and where citizens are protected.
