Moldova's first lesson of new school year is on European integration
Students in Moldova returned to school on Friday for the start of the new school year. The first day of school is marked by a festive assembly followed by the first lesson. The subject for this hour is set by the Ministry of Education each year. This year, the first lesson for students across the country will be on the topic of "Moldova European".
This subject was chosen in the context of Moldova's status as a candidate country for membership in the European Union. In the previous year, students discussed the fallen heroes of the Transnistria War.
Depending on the age of the students, related topics for discussion are proposed, including "European integration, European objectives and values, freedom and democracy of a state".
The Ministry of Education has suggested that some start-of-the-year activities should not exceed 45 minutes to avoid tiring the children. These events can take various forms, from traditional assemblies to more innovative activities that schools can organise.
At the same time, school administrators are urged to refrain from using helium balloons during September 1 events. Experts warn that these can have negative consequences for the environment, as they are made from non-biodegradable materials.
