Doctor: Counting calories can help you lose weight, but do it right
Counting calories is a common practice for people who want to lose weight. However, is it healthy to do so?
Elena Ciobanu, a university professor at the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, says that counting calories can be a useful tool for weight loss, but it is important to do it in a healthy way.
"Excess calories in the human body are converted into fat, while a calorie deficit leads to a loss of body fat and muscle mass," says Ciobanu. "This can lead to fatigue, decreased work capacity, and even a decline in intellectual abilities."
Ciobanu recommends that people who are trying to lose weight focus on eating a healthy diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They should also limit their intake of processed foods, sugar, and unhealthy fats.
She also suggests that people consult with a doctor or registered dietitian before starting any new diet plan.
