NATO says no indication of intentional Russian attack on Romania
NATO has no indication that the drone debris found on Romanian territory was caused by an intentional attack by Moscow, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday in the European Parliament, according to Agerpres.
"We have no information that would indicate an intentional attack from Russia, and we are waiting for the results of the ongoing investigation," Stoltenberg told MEPs.
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday, referring to the pieces of drones found on Romanian territory, that he had requested "an urgent and professional investigation."
Iohannis added that "if it is confirmed that these elements come from a Russian drone, such a situation would be completely unacceptable."
Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr acknowledged on Wednesday that pieces of a Russian drone were found on Romanian territory. The remains are now being analysed by authorities to verify if it is a Russian drone.
A day earlier, Bucharest officials denied that any drone sent by Russia against Ukrainian ports on the Danube had fallen on Romanian territory.
