Moldova, Romania sign MoUs to boost transport cooperation
The Republic of Moldova and Romania have signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in the field of transport. The agreements were signed in Bucharest by the Moldovan Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, and the Romanian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu.
The first MoU covers cooperation in the development of transport and transport infrastructure policies, including the transposition of EU directives into Moldovan legislation. The second MoU covers cooperation in the field of digitalization of road freight transport.
"We will exchange experience with colleagues from Romania to implement the Electronic Carriage Registration (E-CMR system) when performing road transport operations," Spînu said. "Thank you, Romania, for joining us. Together we are stronger."
The MoUs were signed in the context of the Three Seas Initiative Summit, which is taking place in Bucharest. The Republic of Moldova has been welcomed as an associate partner of the initiative. President Maia Sandu is also attending the summit and has held talks with her Romanian counterpart, Klaus Iohannis, the Romanian Prime Minister, and the Romanian Senator.
According to Sandu, priority projects for the coming years include the construction of the Ungheni bridge and the reconstruction and extension of three other bridges, the construction of the 400 kV Balti-Suceava overhead power line, the extension of coordinated border control and its transformation into joint control. The parties also agreed to continue efforts to attract more investments from Romania.
