65 million lei allocated for extended hours groups in Chisinau
The Chisinau municipality is allocating 65 million lei to educational institutions to form extended hours groups for the school year 2023-2024. This is the third consecutive year that the city has funded these groups, which provide a safe and supervised environment for students in grades I-IV to stay after school hours to do their homework and socialise.
The daily schedule of activity in the extended hours groups lasts for 3 or 6 hours. Pupils are enrolled by order of the director of the educational institution, based on applications submitted by parents or guardians.
Mayor Ion Ceban said that the extended hours groups are not part of the compulsory school education services, but they are a valuable resource for parents who need help with childcare. He also noted that the groups help to reduce the number of children who are left unsupervised after school.
