Experts: Ukraine's resistance is preventing Russia from occupying Moldova

The Republic of Moldova made the right choice on February 24, 2022, when it decided to detach itself from everything that means "Russkii Mir" and join the civilised world, according to experts who spoke at a public debate organised by IPN News Agency.

Oazu Nantoi, a member of the Moldovan Parliament, said that the Russian Federation is the only state that defies the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and neutrality status of Moldova. He believes that Ukraine's resistance to Russia's frontal attacks is preventing Moscow's plans from being realized.

"Russian troops are illegally on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Russia has violated all its commitments to evacuate these troops from the territory of Moldova and I am firmly convinced that if Ukraine had not resisted this frontal attack by the Russian Federation, then Russia would have occupied the Republic of Moldova and Russian tanks would have stopped at best on the banks of the Prut, as happened on 28 June 1940," said Nantoi.

Writer and journalist Mircea Ciobanu also says that Ukraine would not have been the only target of the Russian Federation in this scenario of re-establishing the Russian empire.

"We pass over Ukraine, which they thought they would conquer in a few days, and immediately become next on the list of claims. The second phase is the recovery of the territories of Russian influence, lost through NATO enlargement," says Ciobanu.

Several Russian officials, including Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, have said that Moldova is the next target of the Russian Federation.

Meanwhile, Russia is waging a hybrid war in our country, using various instruments, including espionage through the Russian embassy in Chisinau.

On July 1, 40 employees of the diplomatic mission suspected of espionage were expelled.
