Government plans to improve energy compensation system
In the next heating season, Moldovan citizens will receive compensation for their natural gas, electricity, and thermal energy consumption, thanks to the government's "Help at the Meter" program, which is currently being improved.
The system includes seven categories of energy vulnerability, two of which are new and were introduced in order to better target households with low incomes and ensure social equity, said Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu, in an interview with TV8.
The official stressed that these compensations will be much more targeted, but not at the level of those granted in the 2022-2023 heating season.
“We are currently trying to clarify all the technical aspects. First of all, we want to make sure that we have access to more data about potential beneficiaries of the compensation system. We are also discussing with our colleagues from the Ministry of Energy to understand what the price of regulated energy will be. We certainly don't have the resources we had at the beginning of the cold period of the year last year. We had the support of partners. This year, the support of partners has been directed in other directions, just as important for energy efficiency and energy independence of households and the Republic of Moldova,” said Alexei Buzu.
It is worth noting that, in the 2022-2023 heating season, over 760,000 households in the Republic of Moldova benefited from compensations for electricity, thermal energy, and natural gas. Resources worth 3.4 billion lei were used to grant these, and a good part of the amount was covered by external partners.
