Lithuania to support Moldova and Ukraine's EU accession
Lithuania's Foreign Affairs Committee will soon approve a mandate for the country's vote in the European Council on opening accession negotiations for Moldova and Ukraine, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has announced.
The President of the Legislature in Chisinau, Igor Grosu, who is on a working visit to Vilnius, had several meetings at the Lithuanian Seimas on Sunday, where he discussed with Lithuanian lawmakers.
The head of the legislature met with the President of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, with whom he spoke about bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania. "I appreciated the dialogue between our countries in several sectors. We talked about the parliamentary agenda and I congratulated my Lithuanian colleagues on the occasion of the opening of the parliamentary session, which took place today and at which I had the pleasure of participating," Igor Grosu said.
About the process of harmonising national legislation with EU legislation, the President of Parliament spoke with the President of the European Affairs Committee, Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė. Igor Grosu stated that the Parliament in Chisinau is focused on implementing the 9 recommendations of the European Commission formulated in the context of granting candidate status for EU accession and the start of negotiations, and the experience of Lithuania is of great help.
The agenda of the visit to the Seimas also included discussions with other Lithuanian lawmakers responsible for the areas of security and economy. The head of the legislature emphasized that the authorities in Chisinau support entrepreneurs and create conditions for economic growth, which is also a guarantee for the consolidation of democracy in our country. "I thanked the Lithuanian partners for the support they have provided in our process of accession to the European Union. I was once again convinced that Lithuania is a reliable partner for Moldova," said the President of Parliament at the end of his working visit to the Republic of Lithuania.
