Moldova's tax inspectors to face increased scrutiny

The Moldovan government is proposing new legislation that would crack down on abuse by tax inspectors. Under the proposed law, inspectors would be subject to disciplinary action, including dismissal, for abusing their power.

The law would also make it easier for businesses to challenge tax decisions in court. Currently, businesses must file complaints with the prosecutor's office or the National Anti-Corruption Center, which can be a lengthy and costly process.

"We need to make sure that our tax control system is fair and efficient," said Dumitru Alaiba, Moldova's minister of economic development and digitalization. "We want to create a business environment that is conducive to investment and growth."

The proposed law is expected to be submitted to public consultation in the coming weeks.
