Moldova may extend power purchase agreement with Cuciurgan power plant

The power purchase agreement with the Cuciurgan power plant, which expires on September 30, could be extended for a longer period, Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said on the state television channel.

According to the official, the authorities in Chisinau are currently negotiating with the Transnistrian region on the purchase price.

"We have been discussing for some time, we have clearly formulated our positions. I believe that the chances of signing a new contract and having a stable price for a longer period are greater than those of not signing, but of course there are tensions on the price issue and we are discussing," the Energy Minister said.

It is worth noting that the entire volume of natural gas from Gazprom is delivered to the Transnistrian region, in exchange, the power plant supplies the right bank of the Dniester with electricity for 90% of its energy needs at a price of $66/MWh.

The rest of the volume is purchased from renewable energy producers or through the Operator of the electricity and natural gas market in Romania.
