Russia issues arrest warrant for ICC President
Russia on Monday added the president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Polish national Piotr Hofmanski, to its list of wanted persons, without providing a reason, according to AFP, cited by Agerpres.
"Wanted in the context of a criminal investigation," the Interior Ministry said in its database of wanted persons, according to the TASS and RIA Novosti news agencies.
In the spring of this year, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for his role in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
Although Russia is not a member of the ICC, the arrest warrant limits the Russian president's freedom of movement. He had to withdraw from attending a summit in South Africa in August for this reason.
The ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, was also added to Moscow's wanted list in May.
Vladimir Putin and Russian children's rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova are accused by the ICC of war crimes for the "illegal deportation" of thousands of Ukrainian children and their transfer from occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia, accusations rejected by Moscow.
