Moldovan students need to develop digital skills to compete with robots
The Ministry of Education and Research in Moldova has warned that young people who do not learn the skills of the future will find it harder to find jobs.
According to the ministry, the rise of robots and automation is leading to the displacement of workers in many industries. As a result, young people need to be prepared for jobs that require creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
"If we do not take into account these digital changes, we risk not having enough jobs or we will have jobs with little financial resources," said Dan Perciun, the minister of education. "These changes endanger the transformation of our society."
The ministry is calling on schools to change their teaching methods to prepare students for the future. This could include using robots to teach foreign languages or eliminating homework.
Andreas Schleicher, an expert from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, said that Moldovan students need to develop their digital skills. He also pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of access to technology for students.
"The routine tasks that Moldovans are very good at are now being performed much more efficiently by robots," Schleicher said. "Due to advanced technology, you can easily lose your job."
