100,000 visitors expected at Moldova's National Wine Day

Over 100,000 visitors are expected to attend Moldova's National Wine Day on October 7-8, 2023. The event will be held in the Great National Assembly Square and at wineries across the country.

The 22nd edition of the National Wine Day will bring together about 100 winemakers, who will be showcasing their products under the umbrella of the national wine brand "Our Wine Conquers the World."

According to organisers, those who purchase a tasting passport for 250 lei ($13) will be able to sample 12 wines. It will be valid for the two days of the event.

"The slogan of this year's edition of the National Wine Day is 'Our Wine Conquers the World,'" said Elizaveta Breahnă, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine. "In recent years, we have conquered more than 96 countries, with most exports going to 75 countries around the world, of which 60% of Moldovan wine products are exported to the EU. This is a very big success for us, as we once depended on a single market and had nothing to do with our wines."

National Wine Day is a synthesis of the work of viticulturists and winemakers, and Moldovan wine is the most representative ambassador of Moldova in the world, said Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea.

"In order to further promote the export potential of Moldova in the field of wine products, there will be an international conference on October 5 with the signing of a Memorandum of Support for Agriculture in Moldova," Bolea said. "Ministers of agriculture from Germany, Romania, the Baltic States, Austria, and Poland will participate. After signing the memorandum of agriculture, we will all participate in the opening of this festival on October 6."

Moldova is among the top 20 wine-producing countries in the world and is also an important exporter. The wine industry is one of the key sectors of our economy. Moldovan wines are exported to 75 countries, with the average retail price of a litre of wine being about $2, according to authorities. There are 260 wineries registered in our country.
