Moldovan government to respect Constitutional Court ruling on Shor Party members' right to run for office

The Moldovan government will respect the ruling of the Constitutional Court that declared unconstitutional the provision that prohibited members of the former Shor Party, which was outlawed, from running for office.

Eduard Serbenco, the government's representative at the court, told Radio Moldova that the government will analyse the reasons for the ruling and then decide how to proceed.

"The decision is binding," Serbenco said. "We have a position, not the Ministry of Justice, but the Government. We believe that there are appropriate arguments for the constitutionality of the norm, but, with all due respect to the decision of the Constitutional Court, we will analyse the reasons for it. The problem is not with the government, the legislative body is to decide what to do, how to react to the given situation. Certainly, the decision is binding for Parliament. Parliament will have to return to the subject."
