Hungary to continue supporting Moldova's EU integration efforts

Hungary will continue to support Moldova's efforts to join the European Union, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said at a joint press conference in Budapest with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba.

The head of Hungarian diplomacy stressed that Moldova has made good progress in the EU accession process.

"The Hungarian government has always supported and will continue to support Moldova's efforts to integrate into the European Union," Szijjarto said. "We believe that this accession will help to consolidate the community bloc and we consider it important. At the same time, we do not support the idea that the accession process of Moldova should depend on the pace at which Ukraine can advance in the integration process. Each country must be evaluated individually, and we believe that Moldova is making good progress in the EU accession process."

The Hungarian Foreign Minister also said that, as Moldova faces significant challenges in terms of logistics, transportation, and trade due to the Russian military invasion, Hungary will support the full exemption of Moldova from taxes at the EU customs points until the end of the war in Ukraine.

Recently, MEP Dacian Cioloș said on the "La 360 de grade" show on Radio Moldova that Hungary could oppose the launch of negotiations with Ukraine, which would also affect the Resolution for Moldova. At the same time, there could be surprises from other countries as well, the MEP warned.
