Moldova seeks to boost energy security with Romania
The government of Moldova has initiated negotiations with Romania on a memorandum regarding projects to interconnect the gas and electricity networks of the two countries.
The memorandum will contribute to increasing the level of energy security in Moldova and to diversifying sources and supply routes at the regional level, said Energy Minister Victor Parlicov, at the executive meeting.
"Currently, we have a very, very consistent portfolio of cooperation with Romania in the energy dimension," Parlicov said. "This includes interconnections, market operators, and energy purchases and sales. Through this, we want to create a mechanism that will establish a joint working group on energy within the intergovernmental commission. On this platform, we will have discussions and advance these projects more quickly."
Chișinău will propose the inclusion in the Memorandum of strategic projects, including increasing the bidirectional capacity of natural gas transport on the Iași-Ungheni-Chișinău gas pipeline and extending it by building a natural gas transport pipeline - (Chișinău Belt).
