Ukraine charges former president with murder in Euromaidan protests

Ukraine's Prosecutor General announced on Wednesday that former President Viktor Yanukovych has been officially charged with a series of crimes, including murder, in connection with the 2014 Euromaidan protests in Kiev.

The charges stem from an investigation that found that Yanukovych and other senior officials were responsible for the deaths of over 100 protesters during the protests. The investigation also found that Yanukovych gave orders to security forces to attack the protesters "under the pretext of a counterterrorism operation."

Yanukovych is currently in exile in Russia, where he is immune from prosecution. However, the Ukrainian government is seeking his extradition to face trial.

The charges against Yanukovych are a major step forward in the fight for justice for the victims of the Euromaidan protests. They also send a strong message that Ukraine is committed to holding accountable those responsible for human rights abuses.
