Moldova celebrates National Wine Day
Moldova is celebrating National Wine Day on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Throughout the country, a variety of cultural and artistic events are taking place to mark the occasion. In the Great National Assembly Square, hundreds of people, including tourists, have gathered to sample the country's finest wines.
Traditionally, winemakers who have contributed to the development of the sector are honored for their efforts and achievements.
Over 90 wineries from the country are gathering in the Great National Assembly Square this weekend. The slogan for this year's edition is "Wine Conquers the World." This time, too, there was no shortage of music, dancing, and good cheer. Moldovans and guests of the country enjoyed Moldovan wines to their heart's content.
They also had the opportunity to purchase a tasting card for 250 lei, which allows them to sample 12 types of wines.
Visitors have appreciated the wines produced in Moldova and emphasise that this celebration is very important for the promotion of local products.
Moldova is the 14th largest wine exporter in the world, said Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea.
"Every fourth citizen who is employed in agriculture works in winemaking. Our country has the highest density of vineyards, resulting from our area and the number of citizens we have. We have 68 wineries registered in the Viticultural Register of the Republic of Moldova, we have 59 thousand hectares registered in the Viticultural Register," said the minister.
Vladimir Bolea also announced that Moldova will host the 46th World Congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine in 2025, which will provide our country with an excellent opportunity to promote its viticultural heritage.
National Wine Day has been celebrated annually since 2002, on the second Saturday and Sunday of October. The event is organised at the national level.
