Moldova's grape exports grow by 17% in value and 21% in volume

Moldova's Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry announced on Wednesday that the country's grape exports grew by 17% in value and 21% in volume in the July-October period of 2023, compared to the same period last year.

A total of 15,000 tons of grapes worth $9 million were exported in the four-month period. Of that, 48% went to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, where they were sold for 47 cents per kilogram, and 47% went to the European Union, where they were sold for 74 cents per kilogram.

The main destinations for Moldovan grape exports were Romania, with 5,000 tons, and the Russian Federation, with 3,000 tons.

In addition, the geography of exports expanded significantly this year, with shipments to 25 countries around the world, including Serbia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Kyrgyzstan.

In July, the European Parliament extended the duty-free and quota-free export of Moldovan plums, grapes, and other agricultural products for another year.

In 2022, the European Union increased export quotas for plums, grapes, apples, grape juice, cherries, tomatoes, and garlic in June 2022. It is also worth noting that Moldova's exports to the EU increased from about $2 billion in 2021 to $2.5 billion.
