Israel evacuates 28 towns in north after Hezbollah attacks
Israel has ordered the evacuation of 28 towns in the north of the country, located within 2 kilometres of the border with southern Lebanon. The decision was made in response to repeated attacks by the Hezbollah (pro-Iran) group, DPA reports.
According to the office of the Israeli Defense Minister, residents will be transported to safe areas and provided with temporary housing at state expense.
The Israeli army declared a 4-kilometre-wide restricted zone along the border on Sunday. In the wake of the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Israel and the Israeli army's retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip, increasingly violent incidents have taken place in recent days at the border between Israel and Lebanon, raising concerns about a new regional escalation of the conflict.
