President Maia Sandu emphasizes the importance of strengthening the defense system in the context of the war in Ukraine
The initiative to create a new National Security Strategy existed even before the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine and was initially aimed at discouraging Moscow's propaganda and involvement in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova, President Maia Sandu told Jurnal TV. According to the head of state, now, having a war abroad, our country must strengthen its defense system to protect its citizens.
"We put a lot of emphasis on strengthening the capacities of the National Army, on investment and we are working on strengthening the defense system even without the strategy being approved, because we want peace in the Republic of Moldova and we have done everything as we obviously owe them and Ukrainians that we have peace, and to have peace we must protect ourselves to deter any attempt to attack us and corruption is another danger to national security".
We remind you that the National Security Strategy was presented by President Maia Sandu on October 11, at the meeting of the Supreme Security Council. The project is based on five directions, including strengthening the state's defense capabilities, developing international security partnerships, as well as advancing the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian dispute.
At the same time, according to the Strategy, the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation and deep-rooted corruption are two great dangers to the security of the Republic of Moldova.
