Prosecutor General: Over 50% of prosecutors could leave the system due to the risks associated with vetting
Over 50% of the prosecutors could leave the system due to the risks associated with vetting, including the one-time fee upon release and the ban on holding public positions, said acting general prosecutor Ion Munteanu on a TV8 show. According to him, the prosecutor's office system could face a blockage in the examination of files.
"According to some information, more than 50 percent. Let's see what happens in the next 20 days when they get notified. My request to the future commission, which is going to evaluate the prosecutors, is to notify the specialized prosecutor's offices if it is decided in turn to carry out this vetting process. To know exactly how many prosecutors remain, how I distribute the work. It is about criminal cases on the roll, criminal cases on arrested persons, special measures. It's not really right when every 10 days 2-3 prosecutors leave and these cases go from one hand to another. We can wake up with a total deadlock in the prosecutor's office", said Ion Munteanu.
The Acting Prosecutor General added that it is necessary to clean up the system, but also predictability in this whole process.
