Moldova poised to commence EU accession negotiations
Moldova stands on the precipice of EU accession negotiations, having fulfilled the necessary criteria set forth by the European Commission. This pivotal development was affirmed by MEP Siegfried Mureșan during a joint press conference with Moldovan MP Mihail Popșoi.
Mureșan underscored Moldova's readiness for negotiations, citing the substantial progress made in implementing the nine reform recommendations outlined by the Commission. "We believe that Moldova must start negotiations because it meets all the necessary criteria," Mureșan declared, emphasising the country's unwavering commitment to European integration.
Echoing Mureșan's sentiment, Popșoi commended the efforts undertaken by Moldova to meet the EU's expectations. "Our country has a clear objective, and this objective is European integration," Popșoi asserted, highlighting the unwavering determination to forge closer ties with the bloc.
In a tangible demonstration of its support, the European Parliament has allocated €50 million to Moldova, solidifying its commitment to the country's aspirations. This financial assistance will be instrumental in bolstering Moldova's path towards EU membership.
The 14th Meeting of the Parliamentary Association Committee between Moldova and the European Union (CPA RM-UE) served as a platform for dialogue and progress assessment. The gathering brought together representatives from the Moldovan Parliament, the European Parliament, and the Moldovan Government to delve into the implementation of the nine reform recommendations. Discussions centred on judicial reform, security measures, and the country's economic landscape.
Moldova's journey towards EU membership has gained significant momentum, with the prospect of accession negotiations now within reach.
