Minister of Infrastructure says that the national and regional roads can be repaired thanks to European investments

The Road Fund does not even cover the necessary expenses for the repair of national and regional roads, therefore we need European investments to advance and make this process faster. This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, in a show on TVR Moldova.

"We need about seven billion euros to repair the six thousand km of national and regional roads. The national budget is 120 million. Respectively, the only solution for us is to get as close as possible to the European Union and to be able to attract as many funds as possible. This year we signed agreements with various financial institutions in the EU more than 600 million euros for roads. We are now in negotiations with European financial institutions for other larger road rehabilitation projects. The solution is to get closer, to become members of the EU, so that together with their support we can speed up the process. Either we say that we will rehabilitate all the roads in 30 years, or we can do it in 10-15 years", Andrei Spînu said.

Currently, the physical infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova is over 10,670 km of public roads, of which over 5,900 km are national roads, 3,700 km are regional roads, and 1,070 km are public roads located on the left side of the Nistru.
