Radu Marian: In the last three years, four times more grants were attracted than in eight years of communist government

In the last about three years, the external grants offered to the Republic of Moldova have increased four times and amounted to approximately 9 billion lei, said the president of the Parliamentary Commission for Economy, Budget and Finance, Radu Marian. The deputy also noted that the external debt of our country remains at the same level as in 2022, of about 35% of GDP, a much lower percentage compared to other states.

"At the level of debts, the fact that the Republic of Moldova is entangled in debts is invoked. I want to mention that the level of external debt of the Republic of Moldova remains a more than reasonable level of approximately 35 percent of GDP. Much less compared to other countries in the region, such as Romania, which has 50%, Georgia - with 60%, or some countries in the European Union with over 100%. In the period 2021-2023, grants worth 8.7 billion lei entered the Republic of Moldova.

Compared to 2001-2009, this figure is four times higher. So, in two years or so, four times more grants, non-reimbursable funding than in eight years of communist government", said Radu Marian.

We remind you that, according to the State Budget Law, approved two days ago by the Parliament in the first reading, in 2024 it is estimated that the Republic of Moldova will obtain external grants worth 2.3 billion lei. Also, the same project estimates that the external debt of our country remains at the level of 2023 and will constitute 35.5 percent of the GDP.
