Alexei Buzu: The deficit in the pension budget in 2024 is about 30%

In 2024, the deficit in the pension budget is about 30 percent, which is 6.3 billion lei, money that the Government will cover from the state budget, said the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, in the show "Public Space" from Radio Moldova. According to the official, there is no risk of the pension system collapsing.

"Even if we have some structural problems in the pension system, all citizens who have contributed will have pensions, and they will continue to grow. When we refer to the sustainability of the pension system, we refer to the fact that the receipts we have from the pensions chapter in the social security budget are not sufficient to pay the pensions at their current value. So every year, including for 2024, the Government from the state budget will cover this deficit of about 30%", said Alexei Buzu.

According to Alexei Buzu, in 2023, the deficit in the pension budget was 32%, a phenomenon that occurs due to the lack of work force and illegal work.

In the Republic of Moldova, the retirement age for men is 63 years, and for women 60 years and six months. According to the data of the National Social Insurance House, there are over 675 thousand pensioners in our country.
