The Republic of Moldova will start the EU accession negotiations with the chapter related to justice and fundamental rights

The first chapter of the 35 acquis communautaire, which our country will focus on in the process of negotiations for accession to the European Union, aims at the justice reform, said the Secretary of State from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov in the show " Paralela 47" from Radio Moldova. According to her, by the end of 2024, the Republic of Moldova has set as its objective the completion of the legislation screening process and the opening of the Office for European Integration.

"We will start with chapter 23, which is about justice and fundamental rights. This will be the first chapter we will open. It is true that this chapter in previous cases was among the last to be opened. For us, for the Republic of Moldova, it will be the first chapter. This decision of the European Commission comes as a reaction to many judicial developments that have taken place in the new member states that have joined more recently. In order to be able to open the next chapters, we must demonstrate real results, namely in justice and fundamental rights".

We remind that the Government has decided to create, within the State Chancellery, the Office for European Integration, which will be headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The activity of this new institution will focus on the management of the accession process internally, including the coordination of the alignment of national legislation with the acquis communautaire.
