The government approved the initiation of negotiations today. In order to benefit from this energy interconnection, the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, emphasized that there is a need to strengthen the electricity network internally.

"It is about a Government decision regarding the initiation of negotiations regarding the loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD for the realization of the project of interconnection of electricity networks between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, phase II. It is about Bălți-Suceava, plus a part of investments related to the consolidation of the internal transmission network at Moldelectrica. It is a large project and involves co-financing from the EBRD, the EIB and a grant from the European Union. The main goal is to complete yet another interconnection with Romania, to have Balti-Suceava put into operation. The previously planned time horizon is 2028", declared Victor Parlicov.

We remind you that, last December, the Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, and his Romanian counterpart, Sebastian Burduja, signed a memorandum in Chisinau which, among other things, involves the boosting of the construction processes of the Bălți-Suceava line and other important energy projects. These will integrate the Republic of Moldova into the internal market of the European Union.
