Royals boost Moldova's EU dream: Sandu plants friendship tree
Underscoring close Moldova-Romania relations, President Maia Sandu met with Queen Margareta and Prince Radu at Săvârșin Royal Castle near Timișoara on Saturday.
The visit solidified ties and celebrated Moldova's recent milestone towards EU accession.
"We had very good discussions about the excellent relations between our two countries," Sandu wrote on social media after the meeting. "I expressed deep gratitude to Her Majesty for her unwavering support and love for our nation, which contributes significantly to our European aspirations."
Sandu credited Queen Margareta and Prince Radu's advocacy in European capitals for influencing the EU's positive December decision to initiate accession negotiations with Moldova. This historic step marks a major advancement on Moldova's path towards EU membership.
