Drone & missile barrage: Russia escalates attacks in Ukraine

Ukrainian skies witnessed a flurry of Russian drone and missile strikes on Sunday, targeting civilian and critical infrastructure across multiple regions, the Ukrainian Air Force confirmed, UNIAN has reported.

While preliminary reports indicate no casualties, the attacks signal a potential shift in Russia's strategy, raising concerns about further escalation.

Central Ukraine Hit: The Poltava region, in central Ukraine, bore the brunt of the aerial assault. Governor Filip Pronin reported on Telegram that two ballistic missiles launched from the Iskander system slammed into a factory in Kremenchuk, sparking a fire. The eastern Donetsk region also faced aerial threats, with three surface-to-air missiles launched by Russia.

Drone Attacks Persist: Drone strikes continued further south, with Zaporizhzhya region governor Yuriy Malashko confirming an attack on an infrastructure facility. Emergency crews responded to the incident, but details on damage or casualties remain unclear.

Air Defense on Guard: Despite the barrage, Ukrainian air defence systems displayed their resilience, intercepting four out of eight Shahed drones launched by Russia overnight. This success underscores the crucial role of air defence in safeguarding Ukrainian airspace and protecting civilian populations.
