Finland calls for a ban on dual citizenship for Russian citizens
Finland wants to ban Russians from receiving Finnish passports. The idea was proposed by the defense minister of this country, Antti Häkkänen, reports TASS, quoted by Rosbalt.
The minister emphasized the need to reform the system of obtaining citizenship and proposed banning the receipt of Finnish passports for citizens of Russia.
"The dual citizenship system must be reformed in such a way that it effectively prevents various attempts by authoritarian countries to exert influence and other harmful conflicts of interest," explained the Finnish minister, noting that reciprocity in dual citizenship must be moved, including for so that Russians are no longer granted second citizenship.
According to Rosbalt, on January 24, Russia withdrew from the bilateral agreement with Finland on the promotion of cross-border cooperation. Moscow and Helsinki signed the aforementioned agreement on April 13, 2012.
