Norway will offer a grant of 35 million euros for natural gas procurement

The government today approved fiscal and customs facilities for Energocom's use of the 35 million euro grant offered by the Government of Norway through the NANSEN program, as well as the additional loan tranche of 165 million euro granted by the EBRD. The money will be used for the purchase of natural gas and will contribute to reducing the purchase price of natural gas and, respectively, to reducing the financial burden on the final consumer, informs the Ministry of Energy.

According to the cited source, the provisions are included in the draft amendment to Law no. 234 of 2022 on the release of S.A. "Energocom" of the obligation to guarantee the repayment of the loan and regarding the granting of fiscal and customs facilities for the import and/or deliveries of goods and/or services intended for the implementation of the "Security of Natural Gas Supply" project.

"The loan from the EBRD is of the "Revolving" type (repayment-reuse), the funds can be used up to three times. The fiscal facilities granted will allow that at the final price of gas procured and supplied by S.A. "Energocom" on the market of the Republic of Moldova not to add import taxes and value added tax, which ultimately ensures that these costs are not included in the natural gas tariffs, borne by the final consumers", reads the press release of the Energy Ministry.
