Moldova Prepares for EU Talks: Legislative Review Takes Center Stage
As Moldova prepares for crucial EU accession talks, revising national legislation to align with the EU's acquis communautaire takes centre stage.
Ina Coșeru, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration, emphasised this point on Radio Moldova's "Spațiul Public" (Public Space) show. Security expert Angela Gramada from Bucharest further underscored the vital role of Romania in supporting Moldova's European aspirations.
Harmonisation at the Heart of Negotiations
Achieving harmonisation between national and EU legislation forms a critical pillar of the upcoming negotiations. Coșeru stressed the urgency of activating the 33 working groups entrusted with this task.
"Our focus is on making these 33 working groups fully operational," she declared. "They will not only review our legislation but also delve into the sets of directives assigned to each domain. Fulfilling their harmonisation role is paramount, and additional structures and platforms are being established at both Parliament and Government levels to support this effort."
Romanian Partnership: Bridging the Gap
Gramada lauded the advantage of having EU legislation translated into Romanian, which facilitates understanding and implementation. She additionally reaffirmed the impact of the Strategic Partnership between Moldova and Romania, highlighting its role in driving forward concrete projects to support Moldova's EU integration journey.
"These projects form the core of the strategic partnership," she explained. "By fostering closer ties between Moldova and Romania, they become even more relevant during challenging times and within the current regional context. This connection significantly eases the transition from crisis to economic and social stability in Moldova. While France and Germany played significant roles at past donor conferences, Romania emerged as the central pillar of financial assistance for Moldova, and this commitment continues."
A Historical Bond, A Shared Future
Established in 2010, the Strategic Partnership between Moldova and Romania reflects the deep historical, linguistic, and cultural ties that bind the two nations. As stated in the Declaration on the Establishment of the Cooperation Platform, this partnership serves to solidify the "special privileged relations" between them and paves the way for a future anchored in shared European values.
