Moldova Vows Healthcare Reform After Admitting Corruption
Moldovan Health Minister Ala Nemerenco acknowledged the prevalence of corruption within the country's healthcare system during a recent interview.
"The system is very sensitive," she conceded to Jurnal TV, emphasising the need for reform. However, she praised most medical workers as "professionals."
Nemerenco expressed optimism about recent changes, claiming, "People see the reforms are helping hospitals." She also stressed the presence of sufficient funding, yet highlighted an issue of "inefficient usage."
"With enough money, we can raise salaries and improve supplies," she said, detailing plans to restructure staffing models while protecting existing salaries.
The Minister defended the merger of two major hospitals, arguing it "improves medical services." Further consolidations were hinted at, focusing on Chisinau facilities first.
