Moldova Bus Stops: Cost Clarification After Controversy
The Moldovan Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development addressed concerns about the cost of its new bus stop program.
Minister Andrei Spînu confirmed that 19 modern bus stops have been installed on national roads across seven districts.
Bus Stop Cost Breakdown:
Responding to reports claiming excessive costs, Spînu emphasised that the actual cost of a single bus stop pavilion is around 62,000 lei, significantly less than the previously cited figures of 150,000-200,000 lei. He clarified that additional costs associated with site preparation, including foundations, sidewalks, asphalt roads, and solar-powered lighting, contribute to the total project expense. For example, lighting at the Ivanovca stop cost 31,000 lei.
"The pavilions themselves are not exorbitantly expensive," Spînu stated. "However, ensuring proper infrastructure around them is crucial for accessibility and safety."
Transparency and Addressing Previous Concerns:
This clarification comes after the publication Moldstreet raised concerns about a separate tender for bus stops in other districts, where individual pavilion costs ranged from 209,500 to 223,000 lei. The Ministry aims to address these concerns and ensure transparency regarding the costs associated with the nationwide bus stop program.
New Bus Stops Offer Modern Conveniences:
The newly installed bus stops feature lightweight metal structures, tempered glass panels, and solar-powered lighting, offering improved amenities for passengers. The program aims to enhance public transportation infrastructure across Moldova.
