Agriculture Ministry Considers Farmers' Meeting Request After Analysis
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) is reviewing a request from farmers for a meeting involving the Presidency, Government, and Parliament.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea stated the issue will be thoroughly discussed within the executive branch before a decision is reached.
Bolea stressed the MAIA maintains constant communication with farmers to find solutions to their ongoing challenges.
"We'll discuss it at the Government level after careful analysis. The Ministry of Agriculture is always open to communication and dialogue with Moldovan farmers. These haven't just been two difficult years, but many. Southern farmers suffer recurring drought – 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 have all been hard. These hard-working farmers' yields are consistently below the national average due to drought, barely covering their costs," Bolea said.
Farmers continue to protest across the country, including a temporary blockage of the Leuseni-Albita border crossing with Romania. While access has been reopened, they've given an ultimatum for the tripartite meeting or will resume roadblocks.
Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă declined to comment on the farmers' demands.
