Second Life for Batteries: Moldelectrica Goes Green
Moldova's national electricity grid operator, Moldelectrica, is taking a big step towards environmental responsibility.
Last week, they removed 18 tons of expired batteries containing electrolyte from their territorial headquarters. This e-waste removal is just the first step in a comprehensive recycling program.
Following an extensive recycling process, a portion of the battery materials will be given a second life. This recycled material will be used as raw material in the production of new batteries, electrical equipment, and even cable manufacturing. Essentially, wherever lead is needed, these recycled batteries can provide a sustainable alternative.
The total cost of the lead-acid battery and electrolyte removal contract amounted to 18,000 lei, including VAT. This initiative demonstrates Moldelectrica's commitment to operating in strict accordance with Law No. 209 on waste storage and evacuation. Furthermore, their focus on optimising technological processes ensures minimal environmental impact.
