Moldova Invests in Irrigation for Agriculture

Three large irrigation system rehabilitation projects are set to be implemented in Moldova, with the first tenders to be organised in late April.

The projects will be financed by a combination of internal and external sources, including a 40 million euro investment from the French Development Agency and a $55 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The projects will rehabilitate irrigation systems in the Alexandru Iona-Cuza, Etulia, Ștefan Vodă and Briceni. These are centres of agricultural production, and the projects are expected to significantly boost crop yields and improve the livelihoods of farmers.

The projects are part of a broader effort by the Moldovan government to modernise its agriculture sector. The government has also implemented a number of other measures to support farmers, including providing fertiliser and seed subsidies.

The investment in irrigation systems is a significant step forward for Moldova's agriculture sector. The projects will help to ensure that farmers have access to the water they need to grow crops, even during periods of drought. This will help to improve food security and boost the economy.
