Few Moldovan Businesses Ready for EU Poultry Trade
A year after Moldova gained the right to export processed poultry meat and category A eggs to the European Union, only a few businesses are positioned to do so.
According to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Iurie Scripnic, the few businesses have met the conditions to comply with the requirements of the European Union. They have adapted the cages for keeping hens, a mandatory requirement for raising birds, and are now in the process of identifying partners and markets. Iurie Scripnic also said that it is not yet known what volume of eggs could be exported.
Also, according to State Secretary Iurie Scripnic, one business has been registered that can export processed poultry meat. Like the egg producers, this company must find business partners in the European Union.
The Republic of Moldova obtained the right to export eggs and processed poultry meat in March 2023 after amendments to two regulations of the European Commission from 2021. According to the National Agency for Food Safety, there are 43 units and about 227,000 private poultry farms in the Republic of Moldova.
