Moldova Considers DNA Model to Target Systemic Corruption
The head of the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Veronica Dragalin, continues to advocate for the consolidation of the National Anti Corruption Center and the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
In an interview with Jurnal TV, she elaborated that this merger would establish a centralised agency modelled after Romania's DNA, designed to bolster the fight against systemic corruption.
"Merging these two institutions into a single institution focused on fighting systemic and major corruption, rather than petty corruption, is the most suitable model for the Republic of Moldova. The Parliament has made certain decisions. We will comply and apply the existing law accordingly. I am confident that the DNA model is a much better fit, and I believe that Moldova will eventually adopt it, though it may take some time," stated Veronica Dragalin.
She further highlighted: "An important development in the last few months with significant implications for combating corruption is that the Anti Corruption Prosecutor's Office is now authorised to employ a larger number of people. Our team can now expand to 198 individuals, including 62 officers."
Authorities have previously discussed the potential creation of such an agency. This new structure would exclusively employ prosecutors and investigation officers who have successfully passed rigorous external and extraordinary integrity assessments.
