Moldova Pushes Patient Rights on European Focus Day

During a forum dedicated to the European Patients' Rights Day held in Chișinău, Moldovan healthcare authorities underscored the paramount importance of upholding patient rights, dignity, and integrity.

Additionally, they emphasised the need for accessible and high-quality healthcare services. Participants at the forum further affirmed that effective interaction between doctors and patients is essential for promoting a healthy society.

Raising Awareness for Patient Empowerment

Every year on April 18th, European Patients' Rights Day is celebrated. Today's forum in Chișinău aimed to raise awareness among all stakeholders involved in healthcare delivery, including medical professionals and policymakers.

"Clear communication with patients is essential to ensure high-quality healthcare," stated Ana Oglindă, a member of the Parliamentary Commission for Social Protection, Health, and Family.

Patient rights are enshrined in the Health Strategy 2030. However, citizens also need to take responsibility for their own health, as highlighted by Angela Nisei, Head of the Directorate at the Ministry of Health.

Transparency and Patient Participation

"Patients should have a clear understanding of their contributions to the Health Insurance Fund," emphasised Viorel Gorceag, Country Representative of the International Red Cross Organization.

Family doctor centres are currently obligated to display information on patient rights. They must also maintain a complaints book that is readily accessible to patients and assist them in filing complaints if necessary. Additionally, contact information for the Ministry of Health, the National Health Insurance Company, and the National Anticorruption Center, along with the Green Line telephone number, must be prominently displayed within the premises of all medical institutions.
