Moldova: Another Bomb Threat Halts Chisinau Flights
Chisinau International Airport Evacuated After Renewed Bomb Threat
Chisinau International Airport was evacuated on Thursday morning after an unidentified individual called in a bomb threat.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) dispatched specialist teams to the scene, who are currently conducting a thorough inspection of the airport facilities. Passengers and airport staff were evacuated according to standard procedures.
This incident follows two similar bomb threats that targeted Chisinau International Airport last weekend. On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, hoax calls prompted security measures and disruptions. The second threat forced a London-Chisinau flight to divert to Iasi Airport in Romania, where all 220 people on board, including passengers and crew, were safely evacuated and transported by bus to Chisinau.
Following the previous incidents, authorities launched investigations to identify the individuals responsible for the false reports. While no arrests have been made yet, those found guilty face penalties ranging from a fine of up to 42,500 lei to imprisonment for up to two years, in accordance with Moldovan legislation.
This latest incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Moldovan authorities in maintaining aviation security. The repeated hoaxes disrupt airport operations and cause unnecessary anxiety for travelers. Law enforcement officials are actively investigating these threats and are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
