Moldova's Big Census: 3 Months to Gather Population Data
The National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova announced that over 1.2 million people and approximately 825,000 homes, including vacant ones, have been enumerated since the commencement of this year's census.
The bureau confirmed that both Moldovan residents with permanent residency and those without permanent residency are included in the survey data collected thus far.
"The National Bureau of Statistics extends its gratitude to all respondents who have already participated in the census by providing complete and accurate answers to the census questionnaire," the bureau stated in a press release. "We encourage the Moldovan population to continue demonstrating receptiveness and willingness to participate in this important national undertaking."
The nationwide population and housing census, which commenced on April 8, 2024, is scheduled to conclude on July 7, 2024. This census represents the most significant national statistical exercise undertaken by Moldova, providing vital demographic data. The current census will span three months, a longer duration compared to the 2014 census, which was conducted over a two-week period.
For the first time, over 4,000 census enumerators are utilising electronic tablets to collect data on individuals and residences. The National Bureau of Statistics advises that individuals who refuse to complete the census questionnaire and cannot be persuaded through other means risk facing fines. In cases where residents are not found at home during the initial visit, enumerators are authorised to conduct up to four follow-up visits to the residence.
