Moldovan taxpayers redirect 14.5m lei to NGOs and religious groups
Last year, over 14.5 million lei (€760,000) from Moldovan citizens’ income taxes were redirected to NGOs and religious organizations.
The largest amount, over 940 thousand lei (€49,030), was allocated to the Public Association of Veterans and Pensioners of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to Ludmila Grițco, head of the Tax Records and Information Directorate at the State Fiscal Service (SFS), during the "Zi de Zi" (Day by Day) program on Radio Moldova.
"In terms of the number of beneficiaries and the amounts allocated, the focus is on the Chișinău municipality region. The designated amount represents around 50%, and approximately 60% of the beneficiaries are from the municipality itself," said Ludmila Grițco.
She also noted that citizens aged between 30 and 50 were the most active contributors. "Slightly over 50% of the total designated amounts come from individuals aged 30 to 50, around 30% from those aged 50 to 70, and over 10% from younger individuals aged 18 to 30. The remainder accounts for a very small percentage," emphasized the SFS official.
It is important to note that 2024 was the eighth year in which taxpayers in the Republic of Moldova could redirect 2% of their income tax to a non-profit organization or religious entity. This mechanism applies to resident individual taxpayers with no outstanding income tax debts from previous fiscal periods. The redirection is done by submitting the Income Tax Declaration within the legally established timeframe.
