Moldova: Easter Fire Safety for Churches & Homes

Over 450 firefighters and rescue workers will be on duty this Easter Night to prevent and respond to emergencies.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) urges citizens to exercise caution when using candles. Adults are responsible for closely monitoring children and preventing them from playing with matches or open flames.

Additionally, overcrowding in buildings must be avoided. In the event of an emergency, escape routes must be kept clear to facilitate the swift evacuation of people.

Parking regulations must be followed near places of worship. Worshippers are advised to park legally.

To prevent electrical hazards in churches and monasteries, overloading electrical circuits by exceeding the capacity of the installation is strictly prohibited.

Churches and monasteries must ensure that stoves and chimneys are inspected. They must also have first aid kits readily available and maintain proper ventilation of the premises.

The "Easter Fire Safety Campaign" is ongoing throughout all districts of Moldova. IGSU reports that its specialists conducted fire safety inspections in 1,400 places of worship belonging to various religions in April 2024. Over 4,500 clergy members received fire safety and security training.
